TSR Exclusive Details: The New York Police Department asked Rolling Loud officials to remove several rappers, including Casanova and Pop Smoke, from their lineup at this weekend’s festival just days before the opening day.
According to sources close to the situation, Casanova, Pop Smoke, 22GZ, Sheff G and Don Q are no longer performing in the 2-day festival because the NYPD claims they have been affiliated with “recent acts of violence citywide.”
Now those rappers are in talks to put on their own show to benefit a good cause in response to the ban, The Shaderoom has learned.
The NYPD wrote a letter to Rolling Loud organizers saying, “The New York Police Department believes if these individuals are allowed to perform, there will be a higher risk of violence.”
As of this morning, the rappers were still banned from performing but their teams were still reportedly trying to convince festival promoters that the rappers are not a threat.
Casanova seemed to address being removed from the festival by sharing a poster of the lineup with the word “Cancelled” over it on his Instagram page.
“I JUST WANNA LIVE. My last felony conviction was 2007. I lost everything I ever loved and I’m STILL losing. So much so that “they” won’t allow me to perform at Rolling Loud NYC on Sunday. It’s unfair and unfortunate that my past, which I’ve dealt with legally and personally, continues to stigmatize me and my career as a recording artist,” Casanova wrote.
Rappers showed their solidarity under Casanova’s post by giving him words of encouragement.
“Stay focus[ed] it’s all gone change in ur favor I been through this I can tell u first hand,” wrote Jim Jones.
We’ll keep you posted on any updates, Roommates.
