It’s Mardi Gras season and people are down in New Orleans having the time of their lives. Unfortunately some people were injured yesterday while attending the Endymion Parade.
According to CNN, one man is now in custody after injuring at least 28 people, with five of those people being seriously injured.
According to Police Chief Michael Harrison, the suspect seemed to be highly intoxicated and hit two cars right before crashing into the crowd at the parade. Reportedly the youngest among those injured was a three-year-old with the eldest person being within their 40s.
Reportedly none of the injuries were life threatening. The crash occurred near the intersection of Orleans and Carrollton Avenues where the Krewe of Endymion parade was underway.
A total of 21 people were hospitalized, and seven other victims walked away from the incident.
A witness said, “I saw the gray truck flying down Carrollton Avenue. He sped up and he lost control and you could see (the truck) was getting ready to turn and I knew he was going to run into all those people.”
Harrison said there is no indication the accident was an act of terrorism.
The Endymion Parade is one of the most popular parades that leads up to Mardi Gras, which goes down on Tuesday.
