For the past year, Swizz Beatz and Timbaland have been keeping us all entertained through their live streaming music platform Verzuz, and now they are over there making major moves with their platform.
According to Billboard, Verzuz has been acquired by the Triller Network, which is the parent company of the popular video making/ social app Triller. As a part of the new deal, Swizz and Timbaland will join the Triller Verzuz management team to help oversee music and other company strategies.
Also as a part of the deal, Swizz and Timbaland will become large shareholders in the Triller Network and have also distributed part of their equity stake to the 43 artists who have appeared on Verzuz thus far.
The artists that will become shareholders and partners include Alicia Keys, John Legend, Snoop Dogg, DMX, Jagged Edge, 112, Teddy Riley, Babyface, Patti LaBelle, Gladys Knight, Rick Ross, 2 Chainz, Brandy, Monica, and the rest of the artists who have had Verzuz battles so far.
Swizz Beatz shared the news on social media and said, “Finally something that the creatives own officially !!!! 🎉🎉🎉🎉🎉🎉🎉 @timbaland it’s showtime !! By the artist for the artist with the people !!! #Verzuztriller …. @triller @verzuztv Life begins after your comfort zone…… Let’s go……..Thx for all your support 🎉🎉🎉”
Bobby Sarnevesht, the executive chairman and co-owner of Triller, spoke about the deal and said, “There is no more disruptive and innovative brand in music today than Verzuz. Both Triller and Verzuz share the ‘artist first, music first’ vision. We view this acquisition as more of a partnership than an acquisition, as Swizz, Timbaland, and the other 43 artists who are all becoming shareholders and partners in Triller Verzuz from this day forward become our voice.”
Prior to being acquired by Triller, Verzuz landed a partnership with Apple Music last July.
