After hitting the stage at the BBMAs, Travis Scott is making headlines for helping HBCU students cross their own stages. Cactus Jack Foundation, founded by Travis, posted a statement to their website regarding their annual scholarship fund. The organization has granted one million dollars to students graduating this semester, thanks to Travis.
The recipients will receive the money from the Waymon Webster Scholarship Fund. One hundred grads across 38 historically Black colleges and universities will receive a $10,000 scholarship for their education. To qualify, the students needed an average GPA of 3.5 or higher. Some of the students also faced financial obstacles in the way of securing their degrees.
“Waymon Webster was a Dean of the Prairie View A&M graduate school. My grandfather wanted me to take it all the way through college, I feel there is a power in education so to be able to give someone the opportunity to fulfill that dream as my papa thought for me is amazing,” Travis said.
Travis Scott’s Sister Speaks On Her Brother’s Contribution & Managing The Fund
This is the second year in a row that the foundation has provided the funds to graduating seniors at HBCUs. The scholarship fund falls in line with part of the foundation’s mission to provide “access to education.” Travis’ sister Jordan Webster is reportedly at the head of making this happen, per PEOPLE. She works as the project manager for the scholarship fund.
Additionally, she can relate to these students given her graduation from thee Howard University last week.
“I know personally how deeply important my grandfather’s academic legacy at HBCUs is to my entire family, to Travis, as well as my twin brother Josh who is at Prairie View A&M University and now, to 100 people that Travis has been able to help out at a tough time,” Jordan said in a statement. “It means the world to me to be able to work with my brother as he creates hope and makes a real difference for our peers and their families.”
