Roommates, the highly-anticipated documentary about our forever First Lady Michelle Obama is only a few days away—and Netflix just dropped the official trailer. “Becoming” traces Michelle Obama’s early beginnings and her ultimate rise as one of the most powerful figures in modern American history.
Michelle Obama is still riding high on her New York Times best-selling memoir “Becoming”—and now the feature-length documentary film of the same name, as she embarks on a 34-city book tour, is set to drop on Netflix just in time for Mother’s Day.
The documentary is directed by Nadia Hallgren and is the latest film from Higher Ground—which is the production company formed by Barack and Michelle Obama back in 2018 and secured them a lucrative first-look deal at Netflix.
To date, the Obama’s films include: “Crip Camp,” the Nicole Newnham- and James LeBrecht-directed film about a summer camp for teens with disabilities, and “American Factory,” which won the Best Documentary Feature Oscar this past year.
“Becoming” officially drops on May 6th and offers an intimate look into the life of Michelle Obama before and after she spent eight years in the White House as the First Lady to President Barack Obama. The film also takes viewers behind the scenes on the book tour, including a stop at New York’s Barclay Center in front of 19,000 attendees.
