TSR Exclusive: Tory Lanez has received both praise and backlash for his new album “Daystar” which detailed his side of the Megan Thee Stallion shooting over 17 tracks.
His controversial decision to explain himself through his music has garnered a lot of criticism for his choices. Some people were upset with the timing of the album drop following the disappointing outcome of the Breonna Taylor case while others slammed him for what they say is the profiting and exploitation of violence against a Black woman.
Tory’s team exclusively tells us that Tory Lanez chose September 25th to drop “Daystar” as it is the anniversary of the day his mother, Luella Peterson, died. It’s also the same day as her birthday.
A rep for Tory also tells us that a portion of the profits from the album will be donated to organizations supporting women, children and victims of violence as well as the Breonna Taylor Foundation.
People have called out for Tory’s cancelation following the release of “Daystar” for what many believe was an insensitive response to the situation.
Tory also has certainly ruffled a lot of feathers with the album as he called out multiple celebrities over several tracks for speaking out against him and pulling their support. Some of the celebs on the lists include: JR Smith, Dream Doll, Kehlani and Bun B.
Only time will tell were Tory’s status sits with the community but so far, it seems few have welcomed him back with open arms. There’s also the criminal investigation attached to the shooting and though Megan identified Tory as her shooter, charges have yet to be filed and Megan fans are concerned that she’ll never get justice.
We’ll keep you posted.
