Tory Lanez is remaining hopeful that he won’t serve his entire 10-year prison sentence! The singer-rapper updated fans on the status of his music production and what’s next career-wise while behind bars. Tory Lanez’s update came via a recorded prison call, which was shared on his social media platforms.
To be clear, Tory Lanez seemed to speak with what sounded like renewed energy in the prison call. Within two hours, the post on his Instagram page racked up over 10,000 comments and more than 161,000 likes.
He spoke briefly about releasing new music after working out the kinks of recording over a prison phone with his engineer. Additionally, he implied that he’ll be “coming home soon” and that his spirit won’t damper regardless of his “temporary” situation.
“I got a lot of good news, man… After about 20-something to 30-something f**k-ups and mistakes, me and my engineer have finally figured out how to record music over the jail phone and still keep the quality as professional as I had it on the street. It’s over. I done cracked the f**king code man. Not even these prison walls can stop me from dropping new music,” Tory Lanez said on the prison call.
Lanez continued, claiming that God has “already” shown him his situation isn’t permanent. “…no matter where they put me, they can’t lock down my spirit, my ambition, my soul, my passion, or my destiny,” Tory shared.
“Umbrellas, I’ll be home very soon…” he said.

Lanez received his sentencing in August after a jury found him guilty of three charges in December 2022. His charges included discharging a firearm with gross negligence, assault with a semiautomatic firearm in relation to the shooting of Megan Thee Stallion, and carrying a loaded, unregistered firearm in a vehicle.
Lanez doubled down on his alleged innocence in August, too. After sentencing, he released a statement saying he hasn’t and won’t apologize for his “wrongful charges.”
“In no way, shape, or form was I apologizing for the wrongful charges I’m being convicted of,” Lanez stated at the time. “I remain on the stance that I refuse to apologize for something that I did not do.”
As of September 2023, Lanez is serving his sentence at the North Kern State Prison in Delano, California. Officials transferred him to the state prison after a judge denied his motion for bail, per USA TODAY.
At the time, he was requesting to be freed on bail and reside with his then-wife and son during his appeals process. However, multiple efforts to appeal his conviction and sentencing have stalled in court since then.
Despite his upbeat tone in the newly released prison call, Tory Lanez got hit close to home in June when his wife filed for divorce. It had been less than a month since they wed on June 25, 2023.
Most recently, some of the artist’s Umbrellas rolled up on Megan, shouting, “Free Tory Lanez” from the sidelines. Her reaction to the fanbase picket line quickly went viral.
