Last night VH1 Hip Hop Honors aired live from the David Geffen Hall at Lincoln Center in New York City, after a six-year hiatus. There were tons of stars that showed up to honor the women of the night, Queen Latifah, Missy Elliot, Salt-N-Peppa and Lil Kim.
Here are some of our favorite moments:
1:Teyana Taylor, Dej Loaf, and Lil Mama’s Tribute To Lil Kim: There is no doubt that both Lil Mama, Dej Loaf and Teyana Taylor embodied the essence of Lil Kim last night at the Hip Hop Honors. Lil Mama and Dej Loaf donned in classic Lil Kim attire as they collaborated for her hit single “Crush On You”. Teyana Taylor took things a step further when continued the tribute as she performed “No Time” and “All About The Benjamin’s” alongside The Lox.
2: Remy Ma Honors Missy Elliot: Remy Ma started off the night with the first tribute to Missy Elliot. She captured Missy both past and present when she performed some of Missy’s classic hits and her latest single “WTF”. However, she couldn’t leave without thanking the honorees for paving the way for her to be “All The Way Up”, and leaving things off with a performance of the hit single with Fat Joe.
3: Queen Latifah Tributes: Queen Latifah has her hands in multiple parts of the entertainment industry, but first and foremost she is a female rapper. Last night she took it back and performed some of her classic hits such as, “When You’re Good To Mama” and “Had It Up To Here”. However, the highlight performance came at the end of the show when she performed “U.N.I.T.Y” as other female rappers such as Da Brat, YoYo, Rah Digga, Monie Love and a host of others joined her on the stage.
4: Lil Kim & Rich Homie Quan Performance: Yesterday Lil Kim celebrated a birthday, and there was no way the Queen Bee was not going to hit the stage after being honored. However, one moment that has everyone talking is her performance of “Get Money” featuring Rich Homie Quan. The original features the late Notorious B.I.G, but RHQ was there to hold down his verse. Unfortunately, many people seemed to be unsatisfied, as he couldn’t complete the whole verse.
5: Monica, Fantasia & Tweet: In another tribute, Monica, Fantasia and Tweet came out to honor Missy Elliot. Although she’s a heavyweight in the rap game, she’s also behind some of our favorite R&B singles. Fantasia started off with “Free Yourself”, then Monica came out and performed her and Missy’s song “So Gone”, with Tweet ending it off with “Oops (Oh My)”.
6: Salt-N-Peppa Tribute: Girl group Salt-N-Peppa received a special tribute when Eve came out busting the rhymes from the groups hit single “Shoop”. Then Ashanti took things over by singing the chorus of “Whatta A Man” and even showing her skills by rapping a verse. And Dreezy and Keke Palmer teamed up to perform the groups classic single “Push It”.
Roommates, what were your moments parts from VH1’s 2016 Hip Hop Honors?
