We were counting down the days until the 2016 #VMAs and last night the big show went down; live from New York City at Madison Square Garden. Like every award show we always look for the memorable moments that will have us talking the next day, and many after.
With big stars like Beyoncé, Kanye West, Rihanna, Drake, Diddy, DJ Khaled and a host of others, all in one room. You’re more than likely to get a few top moments.
Here are our top moments from the 2016 Video Music Awards.
#1: Beyonce’s Lemonade Performance: Hands down Beyoncé left everyone speechless after her Lemonade performance. Now she didn’t perform the entire album, but it pretty much felt like she did as she killed the stage with her singles “Pray You Catch Me,” “Hold Up,” “Don’t Hurt Yourself,” and of course “Formation.” Queen Bey and her team literally shut down the stage, giving us a summarized version of her Formation World Tour. Not to mention she won 8 out of the 11 awards she was nominated for, making her the most awarded artist in VMA history.
#2: Rihanna Receives The Michael Jackson Video Vanguard Award: Rihanna’s presence at this years award show was highly anticipated as we all knew she would be honored with one of the two highest awards of the night. Usually the Video Vanguard recipient performs once during the night, but she set the bar with four performances total. Not to mention two of those performances opened and closed the show. However, we cannot leave out the fact that her rumored boo Drake presented her with the award. I think it’s safe to say #Aubrih is really a thing after the two were seen leaving MSG hand in hand.
#3: Kanye West Debuts “Fade” Music Video: After word got out that MTV was giving Kanye West four minutes to do anything on stage, we all were pretty much ready with popcorn in hand to see what he would do. Once he stepped out he let us know that he was there to premiere his new music video…but first he was going to speak. In his attempt to talk about the impact of fame as he mentioned his music video to “Famous” he made sure to give a few shoutouts. Including one to his ex Amber Rose who was also in the room. Nonetheless, his music video for “Fade” had everyone talking, and still is. Teyana Taylor showed all kinds of body goals in the visual, while being accompanied by her fiancé Iman Shumpert and their baby girl Junie.
#4: Final Five Meet Beyoncé: Last night the 2016 US Women’s Gymnastics Team attended the show, with the exception of their fifth member Gabby Douglas who was battling an illness. However, the group went to present the Best Female Video, and Beyoncé won for “Hold Up”. And we all were able to witness her embrace each member as she took the stage to accept her award. Not to mention we couldn’t get over how cute Simone Biles looked last night.
#5: Jimmy Fallon Dresses Up As Ryan Lochte: It’s never too early to clown someone, especially when they get caught in a lie. That’s exactly what Jimmy Fallon did when he took the stage to present Video of the Year. Dressed as Ryan Lochte, the late night talk show host made fun of the US Olympic Swimmer who was caught lying about being robbed while out in Rio. Fallon jokingly said, “I directed all five nominees. What an amazing year I’ve had! Who had the best video of the year? I could never choose. I couldn’t tell you even if there was a gun to my head… which there isn’t.”
#6: Britney Spears Returns To The VMA Stage: The last time Britney took to the VMA stage was 2007. So with a new album out, the pop diva made her return to the stage looking to create another memorable VMA moment. However, someone should have reorganized the order of the show, because being the performance right after Beyoncé wasn’t too good of a look. However, she pulled through during her performance of “Make Me” featuring rapper G-Eazy. We have to admit though; after all of these years Britney still looks good.
Roommates what was your favorite moments from this years VMA’s?
