Roommates, if you’re in the mood to feel like an old head then you tapped on the right article! On this day, 26 years ago, the movie ‘Bad Boys’ premiered in theaters across the United States.
The film’s main stars Will Smith and Martin Lawrence celebrated the anniversary with a TikTok post. Our OG bad boys linked up and filmed a remake of the official movie poster. In the nine-second clip, Will and Martin enter the camera from opposite sides. They then nod their heads at each other before turning around to face the camera.
Will pulls out dark sunglasses and puts them on, while Martin puts on a police badge. Then almost instantly, the chestnut-colored door in their background explodes into flames. The official movie poster from 26 years ago appears and the nostalgia sets in.
The video is accompanied by the song ‘I’m Just A Kid’ by Simple Plan, a Canadian rock band. Will initially posted the video to his TikTok page, which has over 50 million followers.
“When we say FOR LIFE we mean it. Bad Boys came out 26 years ago today!” Will captioned the movie poster remake.
At the time of this publication, the video has received over 27 million views, over 77 thousand shares, and over 46 thousand comments.
Will and Martin received an MTV Movie Award nomination for ‘Best On-Screen Duo’ in 1996. Despite not winning the award, the action-comedy film became a cultural staple that led to two additional movies.
‘Bad Boy II’ was released in July 2003 and followed the buddy cops team as they investigated the illegal drug ecstasy flooding the Miami streets. Fans might remember that Will’s character ‘Mike’ and Syd, the sister of Martin’s character ‘Marcus’, secretly dated during this movie.
The third film went into production after a few years of switching writers and directors and navigating the climbing costs of the film. Finally, in January 2020, the duo returned to our screens in ‘Bad Boys for Life’ and collected over $400 million globally at the box office, Deadline reported.
If you haven’t had enough of the team, have no fear, a fourth film is said to be in the works.
