Tionne “T-Boz” Watkins is weighing in on her groupmate Rozonda “Chilli” Thomas’ relationship with actor Matthew Lawrence. The 52-year-old, who is also longtime friends with Chilli, shared her thoughts with PEOPLE at the 2023 iHeartRadio Music Awards on Monday.
T-Boz spoke with PEOPLE and shared that her “sister” Chilli is “so happy” in her relationship with Matthew Lawrence.
“She is so happy. Take it from her sister. Trust me — I’ve never seen her like this.”
Chilli then interjected to further approve T-Boz’s statement. Additionally, Chilli added that she’s received T-Boz’s stamp of approval.
“I am ecstatic. He’s the best, and she approves.”
T-Boz and Chilli have known one another since 1991 when their girl group TLC was created. The group also included the late Lisa “Left Eye” Lopes and TLC went on to become “one of the biggest-selling female groups of all time,” as per AllMusic.
As The Shade Room previously reported, Rozonda “Chilli” Thomas most recently clarified some information surrounding the future of the couple’s relationship.
The 52-year-old reportedly appeared on the “Ryan Cameron Uncensored” radio show on Friday, March 17. She explained that she wouldn’t say she is done having children. However, she needs one major title before she and Lawrence embark on that journey.
“I would never say that [I’m done with families]… I gotta be married for sure… and I’m not married, yet.”
Chilli is a mother to one child, her 25-year-old son named Tron Austin. However, Matthew Lawrence does not have any children.
Chilli’s comments arrived on the heels of an interview that her beau Matthew Lawrence did with Entertainment Tonight. During the interview, Lawrence appeared to state that he and Chilli were working on having a child together.
“That’s the game plan. That’s what we’re trying to do.”
However, during a future interview with E!, Lawrence explained that his brother Joey is currently expanding his family, and it would be “great” if they had the chance to “raise a family together.”
“Joe and I were commiserating about this plan that we had to have children together… when we were growing up. And I missed the first go around and now he’s starting a new family and I was thinking, ‘Man, it’d be great if we could do it again when I didn’t have the chance to raise a family together.’”
Additionally, Lawrence explained that his comment was never made to put any pressure on his girlfriend Chilli.
“So that’s what I meant by that. I didn’t mean to put any pressure on somebody I was dating or anything.”
