Timbaland Leaves ‘Empire’ After Two Seasons

For the past two seasons Timbland has been behind some of our favorite records for the Fox hit series, “Empire.”

Unfortunately, the super producer will not be returning for the upcoming season as the shows music supervisor.

According to The Fader, the music responsibilities for the show will now be taken over by producer Rodney “Darkchild” Jerkins and singer/ songwriter Ester Dean.

Rodney Jerkins has been known to work with some big names such as, Michael Jackson, Beyoncé, Brandy, Nicki Minaj and a host of others. Meanwhile Ester Dean has also worked with major artists like Chris Brown,Katy Perry and Rihanna. Not to mention many may know her from her role as Cynthia in the Pitch Perfect films.

Shawn Holiday, the senior VP of A&R over at Columbia Records said, We were happy to work with Timbaland during the first two seasons. But we wanted to take a different approach for season 3.”

When it comes to Jerkins and Dean’s introduction to the show he said, “Rodney is a dynamic, multi-format producer experienced in urban, rhythmic and pop. And Dean excels at writing big songs with catchy hooks,” Holiday said of bringing the pair to the show.”

Timbaland has not made any comments about his departure from the show.

The new season of Empire starts on September 21st.
