Timbaland is issuing an apology to Britney Spears and her fans after a recent comment of his concerning the singer and her recently released memoir.
According to TMZ, the music producer appeared on Tuesday for a public conversation at the Kennedy Center for Performing Arts in Washington, D.C.
During what appears to be a Q&A portion of the discussion, a fan took the microphone and presented a question for Timbaland.
“‘Cry Me A River’ is making headlines again, obviously because of Britney’s memoir. She’s saying that…” the fan began.
However, before the fan could finish their question, they were interrupted by Timbaland.
“Yeah, she’s going crazy, right?” the 51-year-old rhetorically asked the crowd. “I wanted to call JT [Justin Timberlake] and say, ‘Hey, you’ve got to put a muzzle on that girl now.”
After Timbaland concluded his comments about Spears, he appeared to laugh as the crowd chimed in.
According to Songfacts, “Cry Me A River” was produced by Timbaland and released by singer Justin Timberlake in 2002. The song was reportedly written about his two-and-a-half-year romance with Spears. Additionally, the music video showcased their parting ways due to Spears’ alleged infidelity.
Variety reports that in Spears’ recent memoir, ‘The Woman In Me,’ she alleged the video falsely portrayed her as a “harlot who’d broken the heart of America’s golden boy.”
Furthermore, the memoir’s release also revealed that she terminated a pregnancy with Timberlake due to his disinterest in becoming a father, per The Shade Room.
Social media users entered The Shade Room’s comment section to primarily share their shock at Timbaland’s comment about “muzzling” Spears.
“A MUZZLE!? on a woman who is speaking her truth and after being traumatized her whole life? I’m genuinely shocked and disappointed timbaland said this.”
“It’s crazy how it takes one stupid comment for me to look at someone completely differently…”
“Timber us 90’s babies grown now. Wasn’t you the same one who liked a underaged Aaliyah and only married your wife because you said she looks and remind you of Aaliyah? Yeah sit this one out sir.”
“Big yikes and incredibly disappointing!!! Britney was in an abusive conservatorship where she was treated like a caged animal for 13 years…that is the LAST thing he should be saying. She has every right to tell what happened to her. Perhaps he needs a muzzle considering many of the very questionable things he has said over the years….”
The 51-year-old took to Instagram Live on Tuesday evening to address his comments. Additionally, Timbaland issued an apology to Spears and her fans.
“I apologize to the Britney fans, um, and her,” the producer said to viewers. “And um, yes, you know, about respect[ing] woman — hell yeah…”
Roomies, what are your thoughts on this?
