Three Grand Jurors In Breonna Taylor’s Case File Petition To Impeach Kentucky Attorney General Daniel Cameron (Update)

The fight for justice for Breonna Taylor is still ongoing! According to CNN, three former grand jurors are among the concerned Kentucky citizens who petitioned the Kentucky Legislature to impeach state Attorney General Daniel Cameron. According to Kevin Glogower, one of the attorneys representing the petitioners, the citizens filed a petition yesterday seeking Attorney General Cameron’s impeachment on several charges, including breach of public trust and failure to comply with duties for misrepresenting to the nation the findings of the Grand Jury.

In addition, abuse of office and breach of duties of professional responsibility and ethics. Both are connected to the lack of charges filed against the Louisville Metropolitan Police Department officers implicated in Breonna Taylor’s death in September 2020. In a news release, Kevin said, ”These are randomly selected citizens who were compelled to sit on a grand jury and were terribly misused by the most powerful law enforcement official in Kentucky.”

Attorney General Cameron took over Breonna’s investigation last year. A grand jury decided not to indict any of the Louisville Metro Police officers involved in the raid that caused the fatal death of Breonna. Although former detective Brett Hankison was indicted on three counts of wanton endangerment in the first degree for allegedly firing blindly into an apartment next to Breonna’s, he pleaded not guilty.

The petition for Attorney General Cameron’s impeachment also calls for charging him with incitement of insurrection for the U.S. Capitol riots on January 6th. This is the same charge that the U.S. House of Representatives impeached former President Donald Trump over.

Attorney-General Cameron’s involvement with the National Association of Republican Attorneys General (RAGA) as the rationale for the incitement charge is also cited in the petition. In addition, the petition also claims that the Attorney General misused taxpayer dollars by joining an effort by Republican attorneys general supporting a lawsuit that argued that absentee ballots received after polls closed in Pennsylvania on November 3 should not count in the election. The lawsuit was eventually dismissed.

Ben Crump, the attorney representing Breonna’s family, released a statement praising the petitioners. “We encourage the House committee to seriously review this petition and hold AG Cameron accountable for his role in misleading the public and the grand jurors and denying justice for Breonna Taylor and her family.”
