It’s not everyday that we hear about sisters becoming doctors, but that’s exactly what happened for the Nigerian Aliu family.
According to AfroTech, the Nigerian family consists of five daughters and all five are physicians. Among them is the first female neurosurgeon in West Africa, a plastic surgeon, family physician, an obstetrician, and a community health physician.
The Nigerian family consists of Salamat Aliu, the first female neurosurgeon in West Africa, Halima Aliu, a plastic surgeon, Khadijah Aliu, a family medicine physician, Raliat Aliu, an obstetrician, and Medinah Aliu, a community health physician.”
Former Nigerian Vice-President, Atiku Abubakar, took to Twitter to congratulate the women. He wrote, “Awesome. If you educate a woman, you educate the family and the community.”
