It’s officially the holiday season, which means it’s time to pop up and slay at the upcoming holiday parties and/ or family gatherings. Aside from having the perfect fit, we also have to make sure we’re serving face when it comes to our makeup.
It’s no secret many makeup brands have been criticized for not catering to all skin tones…preferably deeper skin tones. Nonetheless, I’m here to suggest a few makeup brands that were created to make that melanin pop.
Milani cosmetics was created back in 2002 by Laurie Minc and Ralph Bijou. Their product consists of a variety of shades and ranges from foundations, lipsticks, shadows, blushes, nail polishes and more. It’s easy to spot these products in your local drug store such as CVS, Rite Aid, Target, etc.
Fenty Beauty is owned by global superstar Rihanna. The makeup brand launched earlier this year and can be purchased through the website or Sephora makeup stores. This brand caters to a variety of skin tones and has been praised for being one of the very few brands to cater to the deepest of skin tones. The original launch started off with foundations, concealers, highlighters and a universal lip gloss. Most recently it has expanded into shadows, lipsticks, and glosses and most recently its first matte lipstick “Stunna.”
Beauty Bakerie created by Cashmere Nicole has more of a bakery/ candy/ ice cream type of theme. Nichole developed the brand after overcoming a number of obstacles in her life, including breast cancer. This makeup brand is most known for their lip products but also consists of illuminators, setting powders and eyeshadows.
Juvia’s Place is most known for having some of the most pigmented eyeshadow palettes. Names of some of the palettes include the Nubian, the Saharan, the Zulu, and Masquerade palettes. All of which give off an eccentric African theme. However, the brand has become popular with various ethnic backgrounds.
Sacha Cosmetics is most known for their “buttercup” setting powder. However, they have been gaining recognition for their other products as of recent. The brand was developed in Trinidad 30 years ago and has served as the “official cosmetics” for Miss Universe, Miss USA, Miss Bahamas & Miss Jamaica.
Black-Up’s foundation is known to give a flawless finish. The brand does consist of a variety of products ranging from face, eyes, and lips. What makes this brand different from others is they have their own silicon sponges to help save the amount of product used during application.
Shea Moisture is most known for their hair products, but they also offer various makeup products such as foundations, lipsticks, shadows, and pressed powders.
Pat McGrath is a famed makeup artist. Vogue’s Anna Wintour has called her “the most influential makeup artist in the world.” To some people, her products may be considered pricey. Nonetheless, her products include lipsticks and highly pigmented metallic shadows and pigments.
Black Opal is another brand that helps bring out the best coverage when it comes to foundation. Aside from that, like other brands, they also consist of products for both your eyes and lips. They have been awarded by both Essence and Ebony magazines throughout the years, as one of the “Best in Black Beauty.”
Black Radiance is among some the most affordable makeup brands that can be found at your local drug stores. With products ranging from pressed powders to lipsticks, concealers, and bronzers. They’ve been known as one of the brands to go to when you’re trying to achieve the perfect look on a budget.
