The Stylist Behind Janet Jackson’s 2004 Super Bowl Outfit Speaks Out, Says It Wasn’t A Wardrobe Malfunction– Alleges Justin Timberlake Wanted To Outdo Britney Spears Performance

Although it has been several years since Janet Jackson’s performance at the Super Bowl happened, it’s still an event that continues to be talked about. Today, the stylist responsible for preparing Janet’s outfit for the 2004 Super Bowl has opened up about the “wardrobe malfunction” that happened during her half-time performance with Justin Timberlake and gives some insight into what really happened.

According to Page Six, stylist Wayne Scot Lukas alleges that Justin wanted to outdo his ex-girlfriend Britney Spears’ performance. If you recall, Britney, Madonna, and Christina Aguilera graced the stage wearing wedding dresses singing Madonna’s hit song “Like A Virgin.” Fans were shocked when all three women ended up kissing each other. That was a performance that happened months earlier at the MTV Video Music Awards (VMAs). Wayne claims that Justin “insisted on doing something bigger than their performance. He wanted a reveal.”

Wayne gave more detail to Page Six and advised that Janet was initially supposed to wear a different outfit instead of the leather coat ensemble that she wore. Instead, a pearl G-string which was inspired by Kim Cattrall’s look worn in an episode of “Sex and the City,” was considered. Many people deny the fact that what happened on the stage where Justin caused Janet’s breast to be exposed a malfunction, including Wayne. He said, “I wouldn’t call it a wardrobe ‘malfunction’ in a million years. It was the most functioning wardrobe in history. As a stylist, it did what it was intended to do.”

As we previously reported last month, Justin issued both Britney and Janet an apology for his actions via Instagram. Justin wrote, “I am deeply sorry for the times in my life where my actions contributed to the problem, where I spoke out of turn, or did not speak up for what was right.”
