There have been many things happening in our nation’s capital since Donald Trump took office, and now another incident has occurred that’s causing many people to give his administration the side eye.
According to USA Today, the secret service doesn’t have enough money to make payroll.
In an interview with Secret Service director Randolph “Tex” Alles, it was revealed, “more than 1,000 agents have already hit the federally mandated caps for salary and overtime allowances that were meant to last the entire year.”
Much of this has to do with the size of Donnie’s family and the efforts to protect their multiple residences throughout the East Coast.
Alles said, “The president has a large family, and our responsibility is required in law. I can’t change that. I have no flexibility.”
Agents are to protect Donald Trump, who has taken multiple weekend trips since he’s been in office, and his children, who have also taken business trips and vacations.
Under Trump’s presidency, there is a total of 42 people that have protection, and that number includes 18 members from family. That is reportedly up 31 people from the Obama administration.
Both Democratic and Republican lawmakers have expressed their concern when it comes to the stress of how the Secret Service is being used.
Jennifer Werner, a spokesperson for Maryland Rep. Elijah Cummings said, “It is clear that the Secret Service’s demands will continue to be higher than ever throughout the Trump administration.”
