Roommates, all nine seasons of #TheOffice will be taken off of Netflix in 2020, and will be exclusively available on NBC’s new streaming service!
According to Hollywood Reporter, if you want to get your ‘The Office’ fix, you’ll have to subscribe to NBC’s streaming platform, which is set to launch in 2020. Similar to Netflix, the platform will feature it’s own TV and movie franchises.
“We’re sad that NBC has decided to take ‘The Office’ back for its own streaming platform,” Netflix tweeted. “But members can binge watch the show till their hearts’ content ad-free on Netflix until January 2021.”
‘The Office’ parting ways with Netflix is a move that has been in the works for some time now, as NBCUniversal, and all of its affiliates, are set to launch their own streaming platforms.
“The Office has become a staple of pop culture and is a rare gem whose relevance continues to grow at a time when fans have more entertainment choices than ever before,” NBCUniversal chairman, Bonnie Hammer, said.
“The Office’ is not the only show expected to leave Netflix soon. ‘Friends’ is also set to make its departure at the end of this year. Both deals reportedly mark a huge financial loss for NBCU, as the company could have licensed the shows to Netflix for a hefty fee.
As for ‘The Office’ though, NBCU says its the No. 1 show across all subscription platforms. It was reportedly streamed more than 52 billion minutes, and was viewed twice as much as the next-most viewed show on streaming services.
“‘The Office’ is one of our most prized series, and we are thrilled it has found an exciting new home where generation after generation will continue to discover and rediscover their quirky moments,” said UTV president Pearlena Igbokwe.
