The 1999 film, “The Matrix,” starring Keanu Reeves, Laurence Fishburne, Carrie-Ann Moss and a host of other actors quickly became an instant classic and now it looks like the film will be getting a reboot.
According to The Hollywood Reporter, Warner Bros. “is in the early stages of developing a relaunch of “The Matrix.”
Now, this new version does come with a few pros and cons. For starters, sources revealed that there is an interest in Michael B. Jordan starring in the film, but there is way more that needs to be done before the project is ready to go.
Unfortunately, the Wachowski siblings, who wrote and directed the original film, along with the two sequels, are not involved with the possible new version.
Zak Penn, who is responsible for films such as “X-Men: The Last Stand,” and “The Avengers,” is in talks to write a treatment.
The film’s original producer, Joel Silver, will more than likely not play a role in the films remake either. He reportedly sold his rights to many of his films, including “The Matrix,” to Warner Bros. back in 2012 for $30 million.
Although the films’ sequels did not live up to the success of the first film, “The Matrix,” did go on to win four Academy Awards, and became the highest grossing R-rated film of 1999.
