More Details On The-Dream’s Motion To Dismiss The Lawsuit
According to Variety, the singer has filed a motion to dismiss and “strike significant portions” of the lawsuit filed by Chanaaz Mangroe. The outlet reportedly obtained a copy of the singer’s filing. Furthermore, it reportedly asserts that Mangroe’s claim of being raped by The-Dream should be struck.
Additionally, the motion reportedly asserts that Mangroe’s claim of being sex trafficked by the singer does not exhibit “required elements including a ‘commercial sex act.”
Lastly, the motion reportedly asserts that the singer requested that his music label, Contra Paris, be removed from the suit.
“The Complaint is a textbook example of a ‘shotgun pleading’ and must be dismissed in its entirety for failing to attribute specific factual allegations to each defendant,” Desirée F. Moore, The-Dream’s attorney, reportedly stated. “Plaintiff’s Complaint contains dozens of allegations that are utterly irrelevant to her sexual battery and sex trafficking claims and are, instead, designed solely to smear Diamant’s name and reputation.”
Furthermore, Variety notes that the motion accuses Mangroe and her counsel of “manipulating the press and the legal system to force a settlement…”
Here’s What The Lawsuit Accused The Singer Of
According to the outlet, Mangroe’s counsel has reportedly reacted to the singer’s dismissal motion.
“The-Dream’s arguments seeking to dismiss Plaintiff’s allegations are wholly unpersuasive. We look forward to opposing the motions and proceeding to discovery in this case,” they reportedly stated.
As The Shade Room previously reported, Mangroe filed the lawsuit against the singer on June 4. The suit listed Mangroe as a singer publicly known as Channii Monroe. Furthermore, the woman asserted that her experience with The-Dream was a “prolonged nightmare.” According to the woman, the “nightmare” included “violent sexual acts” and “vicious psychological torture.”
The woman accused the singer of raping her in a van, forcing her to engage in public sex, and forcing unprotected sex. Furthermore, Mangroe alleged the singer intimidated her into silence by recording their sexual encounters.
Here’s How The-Dream Initially Reacted
As The Shade Room previously reported, The-Dream released a statement following reports of the lawsuit. At the time, the singer asserted that the claims were “untrue and defamatory.”
“These claims are untrue and defamatory,” the singer asserted at the time. “I oppose all forms of harassment and have always strived to help people realize their career goals. As someone committed to making a positive impact on my fellow artists and the world at large, I am deeply offended and saddened by these accusations.”
