Our favorite girlfriends Joan, Lynn, Toni and Maya will be reuniting on an upcoming episode of “Black-ish.”
On Thursday, Tracee Ellis Ross shared a video from the set of the show to make the special announcement. All four ladies were together for the video as she shared this will be their first time on camera together since 2006.
Tracee said, “My giiiiirlfriends are guest starring on #Blackish Tuesday, October 8! We haven’t all been together on camera since 2006. these are women I grew up with and love deeply and it was easy tap back into the magic of our chemistry and how much we love each other. it was giggles on top of giggles on top of giggles. girlfriends ran for 8 years and was important to so many people. being able to merge the worlds of black-ish and girlfriends was surreal for me and so much fun.”
As many of you know, “Girlfriends” was on air for a total of eight seasons, the show started in 2000 and wrapped up in 2007. Many fans have been asking for the ladies to reunite for years, some have even suggested a “Girlfriends” movie.
Last year, “Girlfriends” creator Mara Brok Akil talked about why there hasn’t been a proper ending to the show.
She said, “The fans have been consistently vocal about a movie, an ending, anything. But that has been for 10 years, consistent. It’s not up to me, Mara got stories for days, if I haven’t proven that in my career that I’m ready to write and do the work, that’s a no brainer.”
She proceeded to talk about how there is a lack of value in the industry that hasn’t allowed an acceptance for a proper ending to “Girlfriends.”
Black-ish is currently preparing for their 6th season, which is scheduled to start on September 24th.
Roommates, will you be tuned in?
