It’s goin’ down! The NBA is making some significant changes to a few of its players. Earlier today, news of the Brooklyn Nets trading James Harden for Ben Simmons, Seth Curry, Andre Drummond & two first-round draft picks, had the innanet on fire! James & Philadelphia is trending on Twitter as everyone responds to the news.
Philly native Meek Mill was also trending, and he tweeted his excitement for James to be playing for his hometown team, the 76ers! “Sixers got JH ….. We about to go to the chip off the rip,” he tweeted. Meek might be onto something. The 76ers haven’t won an NBA championship since 1982. James might be what the 76ers need to succeed. It appears that this may be a good trade since Ben Simmons was very vocal about wanting to leave the team.
According to ESPN, it’s been a months-long saga surrounding Ben, who asked to be traded shortly after the Sixers lost to the Atlanta Hawks in the second round of the Eastern Conference playoffs last year. Ben hasn’t been spotted with the Sixers much outside of a brief appearance at practice in mid-October. This was during the middle of training camp. Since then, Ben hasn’t been around the team.
Nor has he played in a single game this season. Sources told ESPN’s Ramona Shelburne that Ben would continue to work with his therapist to get mentally ready to play in Brooklyn. Sources close to Ben tell Ramona, “It’s a work in progress.” While the amount the players are expected to receive for their salary is unclear, reports show James may be getting a big bag.
Espn shows James has exercised his $47.4 million player option for the 2022-23 season as part of the trade, a source confirmed to ESPN’s Bobby Marks.
Roommates, what do you think about this trade?
