As we reported to you the other day, despite being nominated for Best Screenplay, none of the actual cast from NWA’s biopic, Straight Outta Compton, were invited to the Academy Awards. What added more insult to injury was the fact that only the screenwriters were requested to represent the movie at the show.
Well according to TMZ, The Academy basically responded by saying that they shouldn’t hold their breath! A spokesperson told People, “The Academy invites the nominees only, and each studio gets a limited ticket allotment, based on the number of nominated films, to use at their discretion. It has been this way for decades.”
Maybe this can be one of the “sweeping changes” they make in response to their #OscarsSoWhite controversy. However, some believe that even if they received an invite they’d decline along with other black actors and actresses. What do you think, Roommates? Let’s chat!
