A Texas man found himself sitting behind bars over the weekend after he robbed a bank the day before his wedding.
According to NBC News, Heath Bumpous robbed a Citizens State Bank near Groveton, TX on Friday, and he is now being charged with robbery. Trinity County Sheriff Woody Wallace said that Heath walked into the local bank and made an indication that he had a weapon in his possession, as he demanded the money.
After robbing the bank, Heath received a call from his fiancée who had seen the surveillance video from the bank on the police’s Facebook page. His fiancée convinced him to turn himself in, and soon after he confessed to authorities in Houston.
Sherriff Wallace said, “He basically stated he was getting married tomorrow, he didn’t have enough money for the wedding ring he wanted to buy and he needed to pay for the wedding venue.”
According to CNN, the local school district issued a “lock out” after the robbery occurred and would not let anyone in or out of the school buildings until authorities confirmed that it was safe.
Officers were able to recover most of the money that was stolen.
As of Monday, Heath was still in police custody and transferred to Trinity County Jail. As you all can imagine, the wedding didn’t take place, and Heath’s fiancée declined to comment about the situation.
He has not been able to have any visitors since his arrest.
