Roommates, Chick Fil A is putting up a good fight for their faith, and it looks like the people of Texas might have to live with it! State representatives are defending the “Save Chick-fil-A” Bill in support of religious freedom for businesses.
According to Fox news, the Texas Senate has revived a bill that would prevent the government from penalizing businesses for “exercising their religious rights”.
The controversy stems from a previous report that Chick-fil-A was barred from opening one of their franchises in San Antonio Airport. The city council voted against it after it was revealed that the fast-food chain donated millions to Christian advocacy groups, that have been labeled as discriminatory to the LGBTQ community.
Texas State Rep. Jeff Leach spoke in favor of the bill, saying it protects the religious rights of every citizen in Texas.
“This is about our freedom of religion, our freedom of worship,” he said. This is about our First Amendment rights secured by God and secured by the constitution.”
The bill was initially struck down by Democratic Rep. Julie Johnson, but is now back on the House Senate’s radar after claims that there has been a breach of religious liberty on Chick-Fil-A.
“Republicans and Democrats, conservatives and liberals are outraged on this religious assault on Chick-fil-A,” Rep. Leach said. “People love Chick-fil-A’s food and I don’t think you should argue with the organizations Chick-fil-A chooses to support either.”
The House now has until May 21 to pass the bill before it makes its way to the Texas Governors desk.
