I think it’s safe to say the under 30 crowd probably does not think about life insurance as much they should, but Detroit rapper Tee Grizzley is ready to have that discussion, particularly with those who live dangerous lives.
While people would argue that life insurance is a necessity for everyone, Tee Grizzley is specifically urging his fellow rappers to invest in it because it’s time to be prepared, especially if rappers have family.
“So look right, as rappers, as successful Black men from the trenches, bro, we the number one target and we the least prepared. You feel me?” Tee Grizzley began his video. “So, I feel like everybody should have life insurance, bro. I need everybody to go get life insurance if you ain’t got it.”
He then appealed to the rappers who are parents, asking them to consider their children in the unfortunate event that something should happen to them.
“If you got kids, I need you to get a will set up, bro, for your kids, bro, so God forbid anything happen but if anything happen, your people ain’t bold after you gone because you wasn’t prepared. You ain’t have your s**t together bro,” he said.
Tee Grizzley’s message follows a wave of gun violence in the rap community, including the fatal shootings of rising stars Pop Smoke and King Von.
Tee Grizzley has also dealt with gun violence on a personal level. The rapper’s aunty and manager was fatally shot while riding in a car with him in the summer of 2019.
He drove the point home at the end of his video, reiterating the need for life insurance and opening up the conversation to his audience.
“I need us to get on top of this s**t,” he said. You can watch the full video below:
