#TSRPositiveImages: Tech billionaire Elon Musk, who’s best known as a co-founder of PayPal and the CEO of Tesla, Inc., is helping out Flint, Michigan schools in a major way!
According to an announcement by the district, all 12 of Flint’s school buildings and administration headquarters will be getting new ultraviolet water filtration systems installed, thanks to a $480,350 donation by Mush and his foundation.
The gift comes after the school board and executive staff came together to brainstorm ways to provide clean water to the students, stemming from the Flint water crisis that dates back to 2014.
“We are deeply grateful for the generosity and the budding partnership between Flint Community Schools, the Musk Foundation and Elon Musk,” said Derrick Lopez, Flint Community Schools Superintendent. “The new water filtration systems will be instrumental in helping our students return to the normalcy of what should be a fundamental right: having access to safe, clean water from water fountains in their school.”
As a thank you, Flint Schools posted this message on Twitter: “Thank you @elonmusk and @MuskFoundation for investing in the health/future well-being FCS Students! Your generous donation will help us replace ALL water fountains w/NEW WATER STATIONS & WATER FILTRATION at ALL SCHOOLS! Looking forward to our burgeoning partnership! More to come!”
Elon responded by saying, “You’re most welcome. Hope to do more to help in the future.”
Another person, @DylanSheaMusic, chimed in: “Hey @elonmusk I heard a bunch of people saying there’s NO WAY you could help get clean water to Flint, Michigan. Said you wouldn’t be capable idk.”
“Please consider this a commitment that I will fund fixing the water in any house in Flint that has water contamination above FDA levels. No kidding,” Elon tweeted back.
Roommates, we’ll keep you posted as more details are released, but tell us, are you here for this?!
