Joe Alwyn is spilling tea about his relationship with Taylor Swift for the first time.
PEOPLE reports the 34-year-old was open with ‘The Sunday Times Style’ about their 6-and-a-half-year relationship.
The pair broke up in April 2023, around the time she started her Eras Tour, per Capital UK. Alwyn told the Times that having his business out in the streets was difficult. “What is unusual and abnormal in this situation is that, one week later, it’s suddenly in the public domain, and the outside world is able to weigh in,” he said. Joe added that it was difficult to have his “real” relationship “thrown into a very unreal space: tabloids, social media, press where it is then dissected, speculated on, pulled out of shape beyond recognition.”
At the time, an insider reportedly told PEOPLE that the root of the split was “differences in their personalities.” Joe expressed that he has had to come to grips with the fact that there will be “a gap between what is known and what is said.”
Additionally, Alywn was asked if he had heard Taylor’s latest album, ‘The Tortured Poets Department,’ which fans surmise is about their split. Joe responded, “This isn’t a direct answer to your question, but just thinking about what I want to talk about. I would hope that anyone and everyone can empathize and understand the difficulties that come with the end of a long, loving, fully committed relationship of over six and a half years.”
Alwyn admitted it hasn’t been easy, stating it’s “a hard thing to navigate.”
Moreover, Alwyn wouldn’t reveal if he had a new boo or still hit up Taylor. He said, “I’m sure you can appreciate, given the level of noise and scrutiny about my past relationship, why I wouldn’t want to just open the door to things like that right now.” Joe did describe his relationship with Swift as “long,” “loving,” and “fully committed.”
As previously reported by The Shade Room, Taylor is currently dating NFL superstar Travis Kelce.
