Target Is The Latest Retailer To Announce It Will Be Closed On Thanksgiving—Following Walmart’s Lead

Roommates, as the coronavirus continues to ravage the U.S. many national retailers have quickly had to adjust company operations in order to place safety as the number one concern. Target has just officially announced its plans to close on Thanksgiving this year—following the lead set by Walmart earlier this month.

@USAToday reports, popular retail chain Target will close all stores on Thanksgiving due to the ongoing coronavirus pandemic that is showing no signs of slowing down here in the U.S.—this move follows Walmart’s lead with the same announcement just a few weeks ago. However, Target also confirmed an early preview of its 2020 holiday shopping plans, including the decision to roll out its biggest holiday deals in stores and online beginning in October. It’s been almost a decade since Target was closed on Thanksgiving, the last time being in 2011.

That’s not the only change Target customers should expect. Starting August 1st, all customers will be required to wear a mask while inside stores, as more retail chains continue to implement company mask mandates.

Speaking about the decision to close the company on Thanksgiving, Target CEO Brian Cornell said:

“This year more than ever, a joyful holiday will be inseparable from a safe one, and we’re continuing to adjust our plans to deliver ease, value and the joy of the season in a way that only Target can.”

In an additional press release, Target outlined its 2020 holiday shopping plans:

“Historically, deal hunting and holiday shopping can mean crowded events, and this isn’t a year for crowds. That’s why our biggest holiday deals will be available earlier than ever, so you can shop safely and conveniently without worrying about missing out on deals that usually come later in the season.”

The company also added that “This season, you can count on getting extra-big savings without the extra-long lines, with plenty of opportunities to score the best deals on the hottest items both before and after November 26th.”
