Tank Explains How He Was Able To Provide Background Vocals For Aaliyah On The Song, ‘Come Over’

Tank has always been a vocal beast in the music industry. With a career that spans decades, he has been killing the game for over 20 years. He’s collaborated with some of the best artists, not excluding the songs he’s written for artists and the films he starred in. Recently he was featured on Elle Magazine’s YouTube Channel for a segment of, “Song Association.” While on there he opened up about his dream collaboration with the late Aaliyah and how he wished they could’ve done something really cool.

If you’re a real Aaliyah fan, you know that Tank provided background vocals on the song “Come Over,” which was featured on her self-titled album, released back in 2001. While sitting in front of a keyboard, Tank explained how he happened to be at the right place at the right time. “The song you hear me on, “Come Over,”(as he lets out a note) I just happened to walk in the studio that day. We were going to check on baby girl, and she was working with Johnta Austin,” he said.

He continued, “As soon as I walked in, she said, “Tank can do it,” Johnta said,” Tank can do it,” and I was like,” Tank can do what?”

Tank continued to explain that the two sent him in the booth, and the rest was history. Again he started singing more of the iconic bridge from the song as he played the keyboard. It’s been almost 20 years since Aaliyah’s passing, but her music is just as impactful today.

Some of the Roommates were stunned to learn that Tank was singing on the track. “You learn something new every day. Never knew,” one commented. Another Roommate showed Tank some love and commented, ”Tank’s harmonies are undefeated.” Johnta stepped into The Shade Room and commented on the post leaving two heart emojis!

We’re so glad that we have Aaliyah’s music to keep her legacy alive!
