While everybody else was snapping their fingers and two-steppin’, it looks like Usher Raymond wasn’t feeling T-Pain’s vibe at all, according to his account of events.
According to T-Pain, Usher reportedly contributed to what led to a four-year depression for the artist after a conversation in 2013.
In an upcoming @thisispop #Netflix documentary, T-Pain stated they were on a plane to the BET Awards and while sleeping, Usher allegedly asked the stewardess to wake him up from a nap to have a conversation about his music.
T-Pain stated that Usher allegedly stated, “I really respect Usher,” then he continued to detail their conversation. He alleges that Usher stated, “‘I’m gonna tell you something, man. You kinda f***ed up music.’”
Detailing the conversation even more, T-Pain stated that Usher said he messed up music for real singers, “‘Yeah man you really f**ked up music for real singers.’ I was like, ‘What did I do? I came out and I used Auto-Tune.’ He was like, ‘Yeah, you fucked it up.’ I’m like, ‘But I used it, I didn’t tell everybody else to start using it.’”
According to T-Pain, the conversation was the “very moment that started a four-year depression for me.”
Once the clip started to trend on social media, people had a lot to say about the information T-Pain shared.
A commenter said, “His artistry was THAT amazing that a singer who’s been successful since the 90’s said that he “ruined” an entire industry…smells like impact that’s legendary if you ask me. The power has [Diamond emoji].”
Someone else stated, “Then he ended up using the same thing in his music when it was the vibe! T-Pain started a WHOLE WAVE! The reason why he’s the king of autotune is because he actually sing without it! Not many of the people who use it now can say the same.”
Roomies, what y’all think about this?
