Summer Walker was, once again, a topic of conversation due to her recent hairstyle. Weeks after putting the innanet in a chokehold with her shaved head, high ponytail look, Summer tapped into culture and tradition to inspire a hair and ‘fit combo.
On Friday, the singer published photos rocking a large afro wig and a traditional dress. Her wig covered her forehead and eyes. In one of the photos, she sat on a vintage cream-and-gold couch with her legs crossed. Her dress was white with a ruffled waist and half-length sleeves. The caption on her post said, “love my house” along with a moon emoticon.
But, it seems like the response to her look was less than pleasant given the follow-up Summer gave on her Instagram Story.
“Straight wig, slutty dress = [heart eye emoticon, devil face smiling emoticon, clapping hands emoticon and tongue emoticon],” Summer wrote. “Afro wig, dressed for ceremony = [vomiting emoticon, rolling eyes emoticon, woozy face emoticon and laughing emoticon]”
She included a second post on the subject in her Instagram Story. This time Summer referenced someone named Aisha, but didn’t give much context on the person.
“In the words of “Aisha,” step away from whiteness,” Summer wrote.
Both photos were posted on a background picture featuring the mirrors seen in Summer’s original post.
As mentioned, this isn’t Summer’s first time going viral for her hair. Following all the chit-chat about her shaved head, Summer removed the post. But, the artist made it clear that the removal had nothing to do with negative opinions.
“People are so funny y’all really thought y’all hateful comments had an effect on me? I took my shaved style pic down from IG cause my religion doesn’t allow me to show my head,” Summer wrote on the story of her primary account (@summerwalker)
Summer also revealed that she “got in trouble” for the post, though she didn’t specify what kind of trouble or which religion she practices. She also mentioned wearing a wig for a video shoot versus dissatisfaction with her chosen hairstyle.
“Y’all think [too] highly of yourselves. Y’all weak as* opinions matter to NO ONE, a lot of y’all have as much significance in the world as an ant in the dirt,” Summer wrote. “No one even knows y’all are alive lol I was FINE ASF.”
