#Roommates, it’s no secret that we’re currently living in the era of remakes and reboots of some of our all-time favorites—and while we’re not here for most of them, some have us pretty excited for their return. One reboot in question is Disney’s beloved animated series “The Proud Family” and it’s just been confirmed that new episodes are finally on their way!
While everyone is still reliving their childhoods courtesy of the new streaming service Disney+, there is news that some of the Disney favorites you know and love are coming back with a modern update. According to @Shadow_Act, “Suga Mama” herself, “Family Matters” actress JoMarie Payton, officially confirmed that “The Proud Family” is making its way to Disney+ with all new episodes.
During a recent appearance on the ABC daytime talk show “Strahan, Sara and Keke,” JoMarie announced the exciting news that fans have been waiting years for. When Keke Palmer asked her if she was anything like her character “Suga Mama” on the show, she responded with this:
“Yeah, Suga’s large and in charge. That’s all I’ve got to say — except for Suga Mama will be doing some new episodes come February.”
If you’ve been keeping up, you’ll know that this isn’t the first time that a star of “The Proud Family” has teased a revival of the show on Disney+, as Tommy Davidson (who voiced Penny Proud’s dad Oscar) said this back in August:
“I forgot to tell you that,“The Proud Family” is coming back. Proud Family‘s coming back. It’s on one of Disney’s streaming [services]. Yeah, Proud Family‘s coming back. They told me not to tell anyone…new episodes!”
The series originally aired on the Disney Channel from 2001-2005 and ended its run with the Disney Channel original film, “The Proud Family Movie.”
Roommates, what are your thoughts on this?
