There is currently attention surrounding the Immanuel Christian School in Springfield, Virginia as it has been reported that three sixth grade students have been reportedly bullying a student, and they crossed the line when they cut off some of her dreadlocks earlier this week.
According to NBC Washington, Amari Allen, 12, said three boys, who are also white students, cut off her dreadlocks on Monday while reportedly pinning her down. She said, “They said my hair was nappy and I was ugly.”
Stephen Danish, the head of the school, said that administrators were “deeply disturbed by the allegations.” He continued to say, “We take seriously the emotional and physical well-being of all our students, and have a zero-tolerance policy for any kind of bullying or abuse.”
Amari’s grandfather, Dewaune Allen, said, “My heart just broke. I was just paralyzed. I couldn’t get myself together.”
Amari detailed the incident and said that everything occurred during recess. She claims one boy covered her mouth, while another held her arms and the third boy cut her dreadlocks.
She was reportedly scared to tell anyone. However, on Wednesday while her grandmother was doing her hair she noticed portions of her hair were missing and that’s when Amari told her what happened.
The family contacted the Fairfax County police, who made a report about the incident.
The news outlet also noted that this is the same school that Karen Pence, the wife of Vice President Mike Pence, teaches at part-time. They reached out to her office for a comment on the matter, however, they had not received a response.
