A student at a Michigan high school was suspended after taking matters into her own hands by sharing a photo to Facebook and Twitter.
According to WXYZ, Hazel Juco said that she was upset to see discolored water come out of the sink in her schools restroom. So she decided to snap a photo of it and share it to social media.
Knowing that her school doesn’t have too much money she said, “I always hope that someone will see it and want to help us.” Unfortunately shortly after posting the photo she was called to the office where she was told that she was being suspended.
The school’s reason for the suspension was “inappropriate use of electronics in the restroom.” Juco felt like a target and said, “Every girl takes selfies in the bathroom and makes it their profile pictures.”
Students protested against the schools decision by tweeting their bathroom selfies that were taken at school without them getting in trouble. They caught the attention of the local news.
The superintendent was contacted where she said the restriction of using cell phones in the bathroom is to prevent inappropriate photos from being taken. However, she did admit to the schools administrators have making the mistake of not reporting certain issues.
Which explained why the water had been discolored in the restroom. Nonetheless, the issue was reported and the bathrooms pipe leading to the faucet was replaced. Most importantly, Juco had the suspension removed from her student record.
