A pungent smell of rotten eggs is looming over Philadelphia tonight. According to NBC Philadelphia, the stench has travelled from South Philadelphia through Center City and up into parts of Northeast Philadelphia and lower Bucks County. Residents claim that the smell is so bad that they are becoming sick to their stomachs, however no one has been hospitalized.
NBC Philadelphia:
“By 11 p.m., city officials had determined the smell was caused by a chemical additive designed to give gases an odor. It was said to not be dangerous. Too much of the sulfur-like substance was used at a South Philly plant, officials said.”
It isn’t known which plant the smell originated from, however city officials are investigating the matter.
