TSR Updates: TSR Politics — Roommates, as the country continues to move toward drastic measures of aid during the coronavirus pandemic, it looks like Republicans are hitting some bumps in the road.
According to NBC news, Republicans, who needed 60 votes to move forward with the proposed stimulus bill, failed to win over any Democrats on Sunday night. So, as of now, no aid, including those $1,000 checks to individuals, will go into the economy.
A second vote has been scheduled for Monday, and Republicans are hoping to move the bill forward with the help of Democrats. Democratic senators reportedly said they were dissatisfied with worker protections in the bill. They also said rules about corporate bailouts are not strict enough.
“We’ll see what happens. I think we’ll get there,” Donald Trump said at the White House. “We have to help the worker. We have to save the companies.”
And while things aren’t moving fast enough for Republican’s liking, Senator Mitch McConnell says he feels the Senate is “fiddling with the emotions of the American people.”
“So we’re fiddling here, fiddling with the emotions of the American people, fiddling with the markets, fiddling with out health care. The American people expect us to act tomorrow,” he said. “And I want everybody to fully understand if we aren’t able to act Monday, it’ll be because of our colleagues on the other side continuing to dicker when the country expects us to come together to address this problem.”
