Steph Curry normally is on the receiving end of praises–except for this one time where he is being called out by an NFL player.
Apparently, Steph recently hosted kid’s basketball camp in Hawaii. Sounds cool right? Not for the parents who can’t afford the cost which is upward of $2k.
According to The Jasmine Brand, Campers who wish to participate during the day owe $2k but those who wish to stay overnight have to dish out a whopping $2,250. Well, Seattle Seahawks defensive end Michael Bennett isn’t here for it and ever-so-respectfully called Steph out for his sky high prices.
Michael told KHON-TV: “I see a lot of different athletes come through Hawaii whether it’s Steph Curry or whoever it is. They all come here and it makes me mad, because I live in this community and I understand this community — that there’s so many kids who can’t afford to pay such a high amount of money.”
Michael also hosts a sporting camp over the summer; but the difference between him and Steph (and clearly the other athletes who he is referencing) is that his camp is $Free.99!
“In my mind it’s like, how much money do you need before you start giving back for free? And I think a lot of athletes should start focusing on that. If you do have a camp and you charge money for it, you need to make sure that money that you take from this community, you give back to the kids that are paying for the camp,” he said. “These are the kids that live here. When you leave Hawaii and you go back to wherever you’re at, or you come here and you go back from this vacation you leave with a piece of paradise, but these people still live here every day.”
Curry hasn’t yet responded.
Will athletes make a mental note of Michael’s address? What do y’all think Roommates? Should they keep making their money? Or give back to the kiddos? Let’s chat!
