Many of us have grown up watching the classic Nickelodeon animated series “SpongeBob Squarepants.” Now after being on air for the past 20 years, the series is getting its first spinoff.
According to Variety, Nickelodeon has greenlit “Kamp Koral,” which is a prequel that follows a 10-year-old Spongebob during his experience at sleep-away camp. The 13-episode series is scheduled to start production this month.
Ramsey Naito, the EVP of animation production and development at Nickelodeon said, “SpongeBob has an incredible universe to expand upon and the greenlight for ‘Kamp Koral’ is a testament to the strength and longevity of these characters known and loved by generations of fans around the world.”
Nickelodeon president Brian Robbins added, “That’s our Marvel Universe. You have this amazing show that’s run for almost twenty years.”
In the series, viewers will get to see the younger version of Spongebob engage in building underwater campfires, catching jellyfish, and other camp activities.
