One thing about Pusha T, when he drops a diss track, just know he’s gonna go there, and things were no different when he teamed up with Arby’s for a diss track directed towards McDonald’s. In the track, Pusha comes for McDonald’s Filet-O-Fish sandwich, while comparing it to Arby’s new Spicy Fish Sandwich.
Just a quick back story on Pusha’s history with McDonald’s. Back in 2016, legendary executive Steve Stoute revealed that Pusha T and his brother No Malice were also writers behind the classic McDonald’s “I’m Lovin It,” jingle along with Pharrell Williams and Justin Timberlake. Although some like to refute the claim, Pusha says that he was paid a one-time fee but received no royalties for his part in the jingle.
He spoke to Rolling Stone about it and said, “I am solely responsible for the ’I’m Lovin’ It’ swag and the jingle of that company. That’s just real. I am the reason. Now I gotta crush it.”
Pusha continued to explain, “I did it at a very young age at a very young time in my career where I wasn’t asking for as much money and ownership. It’s something that’s always dug at me later in life like, ‘Dammit, I was a part of this and I should have more stake.’ It was like half a million or a million dollars for me and my brother — but that’s peanuts for as long as that’s been running. I had to get that energy off me, and this [ad] was the perfect way to get that energy like, ‘You know what? I’m over it.”
The McDonald’s “I’m Lovin’ It,” jingle became the company’s longest-running jingle.
Pusha shared the commercial/ diss track to social media and said, “Just dropped a diss track with @Arbys. Grab some popcorn and a Spicy Fish Sandwich.”
