Social media is reacting to Joe Biden’s decision to step down as the Democratic nominee for president.
NBC News reports that the 81-year-old made the announcement on Sunday, July 21.
The leader of the U.S. took to X, formerly known as Twitter, to make the announcement. He stated, “I believe it is in the best interest of my party and the country for me to stand down and to focus solely on fulfilling my duties as President for the remainder of my term.” Additionally, Biden said that he would address the public later in the week about his “decision” to drop out.
Social media freely weighed in on Joe’s decision. Some X users were confused and concerned about what would occur now that the President was no longer running.
The President endorsed his VP, Kamala Harris to take his spot. Biden said that he is giving her his “full support” and urged “Democrats…to come together to beat Trump.”
Other X users quip the 59-year-old is ecstatic that she now has a shot at the presidency.
Some commenters are confident that Harris will secure a victory against Donald Trump.
Additionally, @DJHeatDC is hoping there are enough Alpha Kappa Alphas voters to get Kamala elected. The Vice President pledged at Howard University in the 1980s.
Others believe Joe is salty that he is stepping aside.
Some X users highlighted how merchandise endorsing Biden now has to be trashed. Especially those who have been gearing up to sell items at the Democratic National Convention on August 19 – 22 in Chicago.
Additionally, there are some users that believe former president Barack Obama had a hand in Biden’s decision. As previously reported by The Shade Room, Joe was pressured by some Democrats and celebrities to give up the ticket.
Biden is endorsing Kamala, but she has not officially nabbed the Democratic ticket. Only time will tell if our next president will be skee-weeing to the Oval Office.
