Jill Scott’s Praise Of Chris Brown

The legendary crooner tweeted, “@chrisbrown is amazing. How does ANYONE sing like THAT? Dance, look, Act and Rap like THAT? Beyond gifted. It appears exceptional people have to go through exceptional [fire]. There’s nothing to debate.”

When another user, Liyonce Jones, shared his “drawing and painting” skills, Jill agreed. She wrote, “Right! I forgot about the painting. Wow.”

But some people on the X platform felt otherwise.

“I think the women he’s abused would disagree,” Chrissy LCSW replied. Jill Scott responded by revealing her past experience with an abusive man.

“I doubt it. My mother’s ex-husband was a mean, violent, human AND he could lay foundation better than anyone in my city. What he did with cement was awe-inspiring. We got away. He got a raise and praise for his ability. God dealt with the rest.”

Consequently, Jill was asked to explain her story. The NACCP award winner stated that her stepdad “had something to offer” despite being “sick/hurt” and doing “cruel things.”

“I forgave him because of his trauma. Did I forget? Never. So I try my best to choose better. I’ve failed a few times but not in that abusive area.”

Scott Speaks On Chris Brown’s Past Domestic Cases

As mentioned, Chris’ history with abuse began in the public eye in 2009, after he left his ex-girlfriend Rihanna with a bruised face and busted lip. Then, in 2017, his ex-GF, Karrueche Tran, accused him of physical abuse and deadly threats in a restraining order petition, per TMZ. A judge later granted the petition, setting it in place for five years.

This history was a theme in some of the reactions to Jill’s praise for the singer. @noirraps stated that people “can’t look past” Chris Brown’s “ridiculous” history with “so many domestic abuse cases.” In her reply, Jill implied that’s not her battle to fight.

“I love you too,” she responded to @noirraps. “I’m not here to fight [anyone] else’s battles. If/since women hear the stories, they should avoid that street. Running backwards in moving traffic makes zero sense. Therapy for every damn body.”

Another user highlighted the “load” that “gifted and chosen people carry.” Jill responded by speaking on everyone’s paths, highlighting that some are “rocky.”

“Jehovah God Allah is kind and gracious to us all. We’re all children, learning as we grow. Some paths are rocky but worth it. Some paths are easy like soft serve but WILL break you. No path is perfect. We tie our shoestrings & learn how not to fall.”

@TinyPrincess responded to the singer, saying she would “never forgive men who commit crimes against women and children.” Again, Jill Scott seemed to imply everyone needs forgiveness at some point in life.

“And I caution those who refuse to forgive because they will undoubtedly need forgiveness at some point in their lives. We’re all flawed and need help. Power to people who move past violence. The past is a terrible reminder AND the future is ours.”

When another user called her out for giving a man “grace over being violent,” Jill replied that they had “missed the point.”

Jill’s Comments Come After Chris Brown Dissed Quavo

As mentioned, Scott praised the singer-rapper after he released a diss track titled ‘Weakest Link’ aimed at Quavo. In the song, Chris challenges Quavo to get active, alleges he slept with Saweetie and implies everyone wanted Quavo to die instead of Takeoff.

On X, Jill agreed with a user that Chris’ track was “too personal.” Meanwhile, Quavo shared his first reaction via a meme.
