By now you all know there was a controversy surrounding Gayle King following her Lisa Leslie interview about Kobe Bryant. Some of the questions she asked concerning Kobe’s past caused her to face backlash from many fans and other industry greats, one of those greats being Snoop Dogg. He took to social media to call Gayle out, and while many understood his message, they thought it could have been delivered in a different way.
During a recent interview on Red Table Talk, Snoop revealed that he has been dealing with a lot of loss. From losing Nipsey Hussle, and even his own grandson, Kobe’s passing was yet another hard pill to swallow. So when Gayle was seen asking certain questions about Kobe right after his passing, he reached a breaking point.
He said, “I let my emotions get the best of me. I was frustrated on top of just venting and doing it the wrong way.”
Snoop mentioned that after speaking with his own mother, and even his peers within the industry he realized that his message could have been delivered in a completely different way. Once that registered in his mind, he made the decision to make a sincere public apology.
Although there were some people that were in full support of his initial message, he said, “It just shows I needed to be bigger because I could have created a worse situation by saying ‘you know what they with me, so I’m right.’ No there is always some wrong in the right, you just have to look for it, and I went looking for it.”
When asked how he felt following the response to his original message to Gayle, he said, “It made me feel like I had too much power, and at that particular time I was abusing it.”
There was a huge debate that swept social media as people talked about the habit of women being called out of their names. After speaking with others and realizing things could have been handled differently, Snoop made his apology.
Jada Pinkett Smith also showed Snoop video messages from Iyanla Vanzant and Jemele Hill, who thanked Snoop for his public apology towards Gayle.
