The life of a 6-year-old girl has been changed after being handcuffed and left to sit in a dark stairwell as punishment for taking candy from her teacher’s desk.
Yes, you read that right — handcuffed and left to sit alone in a dark stairwell.
Madisyn Moore attends Fernwood Elementary school in Chicago, where as children do, she made a mistake and took candy that did not belong to her.
A little extreme right? Well when Madisyn’s mom, Marlena Wordlaw arrived at the school, an hour after the incident occurred, she found Madisyn in the stairwell. When she asked the resource officer who placed her there and why her daughter was in handcuffs, he told her, “because I’m trying to teach them to stop taking stuff that don’t belong to them.”
According to Madisyn, the officer “snatched me out of my class. He made me get out in my handcuffs . . . They hurted,” she told reporters.
The principal tried to apologize but Marlena wasn’t here for it.
“I don’t accept your apology ever. I’m more angry than anything because it’s my only daughter. I feel like anything could have happened to her. Somebody could have touched her. She’s in the dark under the stairs.”
Y’all know what’s next? One word: lawsuit!
Since when did protocol for a child pocketing candy call for handcuffs? Loss of recess maybe. But handcuffs?! Sounds like some Ms. Trunchable shenanigans. Remember her from Matilda?!
We hope everything works out for little Madisyn and Marlena.
