Soon after Simone Biles shared her wedding news, the hair-obsessed critics entered the conversation. They gave no energy to celebrating the Black love between Biles and husband Jonathan Owens–instead choosing to focus on Biles’ ‘sweated-out’ edges.
On Monday, Simone clapped back at the ongoing conversation–and her energy is seemingly giving ‘unbothered by the bothered.’
“I think they also forget I live in HOUSTON TEXAS & I sweat those out!!! Soon as we stepped outside for pics. But they can keep complaining idc idc idc,” Simone replied to a tweet defending her.
The supportive comment made by @thecindynoir said:
“Simone Biles is one of THEE top gymnasts we’ve ever seen, has overcame situations of abuse and other obstacles in her childhood, has defined her own success and found love and is now happily married…And y’all worried about her hair…..?!”
And @thecindynoir was one of many going to bat for the seven-time Olympic medalist. Twitter, in particular, was flooded with words of support.
As mentioned, just days ago, Biles and Owens tied the knot in a courthouse, with Judge Jay Karahan officiating the ceremony.
However, Biles told fans on Insta-Story that the courthouse wedding was a required step for their destination wedding. Though she didn’t reveal a location or a date, Simone said the ceremony is happening in a few weeks with between 135 to 140 guests.
Like their first wedding and engagement shoot, the destination ceremony will feature neutral colors, including champagne, gold, and white decor.
Now, the married couple is just “waiting on a few passports.”
On April 14, Biles shared a photo featuring Owens and their Texan marriage license to her Instagram feed.
Over the weekend, she and Jonathan appeared in posted photographs with plastered smiles and laughs in pictures. Taken at the courthouse, the newlyweds were dressed in semi-traditional wedding attire.
Simone wore a white, tiered dress with a V-neckline and low-cut back. The hair that has caused all the online chatter was styled in a high ponytail. She accessorized with white heels and a small necklace, and diamond earrings.
Jonathan wore a tan-colored suit paired with white leather loafers and a fresh braided ‘do.
Simone and Jonathan shared posts of their wedding days to their respective accounts, with Biles writing, “never knew a love so deep” in one caption.
Meanwhile, Jonathan wrote, “my person forever” in his share of the wedding photos.
Owens proposed to Simone on Valentine’s Day last year. The following day, the athlete shared her engagement photos. She captioned them, “I can’t wait to spend forever & ever with you, you’re everything I dreamed of and more.”
By November, Biles shared engagement photos featuring a white tee, washed jeans, and white sneakers theme.
Earlier this month, Biles shared a video of the decor at her outdoor, white-themed bridal shower.
