#Roommates, although the 2021 Tokyo Olympics are still months away, five-time Olympic gold medalist Simone Biles is still out here making major moves. It was recently announced that Simone Biles has officially ended her six-year partnership with Nike for Athleta—which is a subsidiary of Gap and run by all women.
Simone Biles is one of the sports industry’s most sought after athletes, who is guaranteed to bring in a lot of revenue, which is why her latest business venture is currently making headlines. @Popsugar notes that Simone has left her days at Nike behind and instead decided to join the brand Athleta, that is all about the girl-power. Her new “long-term collaboration” with Athleta will include the release of multiple activewear capsule collections featuring sports bras, leggings and more, that Simone will contribute to designing.
Simone shared the news of her new partnership on social media, noting that Athleta’s mission of supporting and empowering young women, helped her make the decision:
“They show women and girls of all ages, sizes, abilities, races, and backgrounds and design their products that way too. . . . As I take the next step in my career, it was super important for me to align with a partner who supports me, not just as a gymnast or an athlete, but for the individual that I am and the change that I want to create.”
Meanwhile, Jana Henning, Athleta Chief Product Officer, expressed her excitement at welcoming Simone to the Athleta family. “Our team is looking forward to working collaboratively with [Simone] to bring the same elements of confidence, strength, and grace she demonstrates on and off the mat into future collections for girls.”
We definitely can’t wait to see what #BlackGirlMagic Simone whips up with her new activewear line!
