If you’ve been following Tory Lanez, then you’ll know that there has been some friction between himself and Drake. Fans have speculated that both artists being Toronto-based may play a part in the drama, but then Summer Sixteen happened and some of the shade was directed at Tory with lines like “all you boys in the new Toronto want to be me a little” and “you was never gang, gang, gang, gang, you was never one of us.” Lanez clapped back with his song Line Up The Flex, but ever since then, it’s been speculated that the two of them have bad blood. Thankfully that’s not necessarily true and Tory Lanez cleared up everything for Hot 97’s Ebro In The Morning.
“There’s never been a personal problem because I don’t know that man,” the “Say It” singer said. “It’s just one of those situations where, the only thing that’s ever gonna lie in between us is that we can’t share first place and I’m the only guy that’s bold enough to come and really take that right now.” The singer added, “Hip-hop is a contact sport. I’m here to compete. I’m here to be No. 1. I’m here to be the greatest. Anybody that’s standing in the way, whether it’s him or anybody, it’s gotta go the way it’s gotta go. I’m not gonna stop until I get that.”
Now, the fact that Lanez has come to play does not mean that he’s not a fan of Drizzy, rather he’s not prepared to just settle for second place. “I’ve said I was a fan of his music before,” he explained. “That doesn’t mean that I’m not here to take that crown. What do you think this is? What do you think, I’m here to be second place?”
Tory Lanez has definitely come to make his mark on hip hop and is still working very hard to express that on his upcoming album. As for him coming for Drake’s crown, he finished up his interview by alluding that this interview would be the only time we hear him speak on the Six God. “I’m not concerned about him,” he told Ebro and Laura Stylez. “I’m not talking about him on my album…I don’t have the time for it.” Oop!
Roommates, do you guys think that Tory Lanez has what it takes to take over Drake’s lane? Tell us why or why not in the comments!
