International Women’s Day takes place next week, and Barbie is doing its part to honor today’s trailblazers while also helping to inspire the youth. The company recently unveiled the new lineup of dolls that they have, which honor “global female entrepreneurs and role models.”
Of the women who are being honored, producer, screenwriter, and author Shonda Rhimes is included in the list of women who has her own barbie doll. Her doll sits front and center of the promotional shoots for the new collection of dolls. Also among the women honored is celebrity makeup artist Pat McGrath.
Barbie spoke about the dolls and said, “Barbie is dedicated to helping build the confidence and reinforce the limitless potential of girls everywhere. As part of this year’s #InternationalWomensDay celebration, we are honoring 12 global female entrepreneurs and role models with one-of-a-kind #Barbie dolls in their likeness. As leaders in their respective industries of tech, wellness, STEM, education, and more, we are continuing our commitment to closing the Dream Gap by inspiring girls around the world to dream big and reminding them they can be anything. #YouCanBeAnything.”
This is not the first time that Barbie has come out with a collection honoring real-life women.
Back in 2019, they honored actress Yara Shahidi and tennis player Naomi Osaka with their own dolls for their “sheroe” collection, and within that same year, they also honored Rosa Parks and Sally Ride with dolls for Women’s Equality Day.
