Congratulations are in order for Sha’Carri Richardson, as the 23-year-old athlete put in work at the annual Diamond League track and field meet!
The opener went down on Friday in Doha, Qatar, and Sha’Carri competed in the 100m race against noteworthy opponents like Shericka Jackson (Jamaica) and Dina Asher-Smith (Great Britain).
Notably, Sha’Carri’s clocked in at 10.76 seconds, the world’s fastest 100m time this year.
Additionally, this set a new record for the Diamond League meet. The previous record of 10.80 seconds was set by fellow American Tori Bowie, who recently passed away.
Just one day before this race, Sha’Carri shared an Instagram message in which she acknowledged some realizations she’s experienced.
At one point, she attributed past misfortunes to the “pain” she was pushing through.
“I was wrong, and that’s why I was going through the things I was going through. I was experiencing the things I was experiencing. The pain that I was feelin’, that’s why all of [those] things were happening to me.”
Sha’Carri noted that she realized these points after embracing her faith again. The athlete added that she’s begun to “feel so much better” since embarking on this personal journey.
“I know that now because I had to return back to my faith. And I feel so much better.”
She then announced, “Y’all say I’m back. I’m not back—I’m better.” Period!
Readers will recall that, after qualifying for the U.S. Olympic team in 2021, she could not compete at the Tokyo Olympics after testing positive for marijuana.
Stoically, Richardson reacted by saying she was “accepting” of the unfortunate situation. She also pointed out that she was working on “moving forward in [her] career.”
“I understand the situation that’s going on. So, I’m accepting of it, and I just know what I have to do moving forward in my career.”
As she dominated in Doha, it looks like the athlete is serious about putting in the work for her comeback.
Congratulations to Sha’Carri Richardson on her record-setting performance at the Diamond League!
